More About this Blog

Having been a business to business publisher my entire career I was looking forward to becoming the publisher of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. As a publisher I consider myself an observer, one who observes someone else’s business and reports on it. When I arrived on the hollywood scene I had my own ideas about

Hollywood and what that meant, ideas that were probably not that different from what most people thought.

Hollywood has always had a rather controversial reputation which may come from the way other media cover it or maybe the reputation exists by design.

Hollywood may want, or need, to have an edgy reputation for reasons of marketing and promotion, but when on the inside of the business you learn the facts about it are no where near the tabloid representation, nor the popular political positioning against it. So, I decided to write this blog on what I observed, while in the company of all the people who are the real

Hollywood, the executives, the talent, the reps and lawyers and all the other craft people who make up the wacky world of

Hollywood. My goal is to de-mystify the business for readers who are interested in it, if just for personal reasons, or may want to be a part of it. I will cover some contemporary issues like the WGA strike, profile a few of the people I think are worthy and offer some advice on how to be successful in the business, if you are new to it or just newly in it. I welcome all your comments and look forward to a meaningful dialog
